Tianneng's first hundred-megawatt-scale string-based independent grid-side storage station, the 120 MW / 240 MWh Pinghu Dushangang project, has recently entered grid-connected operation. The report states that operating parameters across the station are stable and meet the design requirements.

The project is a Zhejiang new-type storage demonstration. It includes a newly built 110 kV step-up substation and 24 storage units connected to the regional grid through six 35 kV collector circuits. Its principal functions include peak and frequency regulation, smoothing renewable-generation fluctuations, improving wind and solar integration, and supporting supply during peak demand, increasing regional power-system flexibility and reliability.

Described by the company as China's first hundred-megawatt-scale independent grid-side project using string storage, Dushangang adopts Tianneng's in-house string-based solution throughout, focusing on architecture, system efficiency and safety:

Architecture: separate control and independent management for each battery cluster are intended to improve cluster-level asset utilisation and lifecycle economics.

Efficiency: silicon-carbide power devices, an in-house high-precision BMS and liquid-cooling thermal management are integrated. The company describes the overall conversion efficiency as among the industry's leading levels and says the system supports online isolation of faulty units and maintenance without shutting down the whole station.

Safety: a four-level active-protection system covers PACK, cluster, enclosure and the complete station. The company states that it meets the grid's demanding safety-access requirements for large storage facilities.

China's new-type storage sector is moving from capacity expansion toward quality and efficiency. The report presents string architecture's cluster-level management, efficiency optimisation and traceable safety management as a way to address differences between clusters, efficiency limitations and complex safety management in large centralised systems. It describes Dushangang's grid connection as a hundred-megawatt-scale demonstration of the engineering feasibility, economic sustainability and long-term reliability of string storage.

Tianneng says its experience in cell materials and structures, system integration, large-project delivery and digital lifecycle O&M has supported projects in China and overseas. It plans to deepen coordination across generation, grid, load and storage, expanding into zero-carbon parks, smart microgrids, direct green-power supply, computing-power and electricity coordination and AI data centres, green shipping, zero-carbon ports, logistics routes and mine-energy substitution. Its intended offering spans planning, design, construction and operation.
