How to read a solar-module datasheet without confusing the numbers
A structured way to compare power, dimensions, electrical limits and test conditions.
Start by checking the full model designation and document version. A product-family brochure may cover several modules with different dimensions and electrical ratings.
Read the physical and electrical data together
Record rated power, module efficiency, dimensions and mass. Then review open-circuit voltage, operating voltage, short-circuit current and operating current with the system designer. Check the stated test conditions before comparing figures.
Separate operating behaviour from ratings
Temperature coefficients and other performance information need context. They cannot establish an actual annual energy yield without a system model, local weather data and installation assumptions.
Check the supporting documents
Installation guidance, regional certificates and warranty terms belong alongside the datasheet. Confirm the certificate’s model scope and issuing body rather than relying only on a logo in a brochure.
Keep one dated technical record per exact model, and store the supplier’s offer separately. That prevents an old quote or a different product variant from becoming the basis of a comparison.
